Senator Helen Coonan's speech at the Annual Andrew Olle Media Lecture may have been hailed by some in the audience as boring, however it illustrated that the Minister for Communications has a good grasp on her portfolio.

Podcasting was the word of the year for 2005. The ability to deliver reasonable quality audio to a global audience may change the nature of broadcasting, according to podcasting proponents, like Adam Curry.

It certainly has an application as a replacement for some business communications like memos.

Delivering audio from the net to desktop or laptop computers (not just mp3 players) also has major possibilities for communicating with clients or the media.

Corpcoms can offer training and assistance in getting your podcast up quickly and effectively. Look on our home page for the latest examples of what we've done, and Bob's recent presentations on podcasting.

Prince Charles has started his own video blog. It's a highly polished look at his public appearances, with some glimpses behind the scenes. It does reconfirm the usefulness of direct contact to the public through the internet for public figures. We're waiting to see the first Australian politicians use video blogging effectively. Oh, and suggsting it regularly to people on both sides of politics.

At Corpcoms we've always had the capability to deliver professional quality audio and video. Although we primarily use our gear for training, it can be used for legitimate news gathering. Recently we've found that some clients also want digital still photographs, so we've invested in professional Canon equipment too. While we're not about to challenge pro photographers like Brendan Read or Justin Cooper, we can now deliver quality event or portrait shots.

"The choice between Channel 7 and Channel 9's news is between bland and blander. Given a choice between Ian Ross and Mark Ferguson, I'd take Juanita Phillips," Bob Hughes recently told the the Sydney Morning Herald's Guide. Bob continues his TV presenter training this year with On Camera Connections

The On Camera Studio has moved from Paddington to 144 Crown Street in Darlinghurst. The TV Presenters' Classes are taught by TV veterans Benita Collings, and Lochie Daddo while Bob does Interview Skills and Voice. The details are here.

The art of the Voice Over is almost impossible to teach. But the skill of directing a voice over can be learned, although it is rarely taught. Bob Hughes has worked with the AFTRS TV Producers class again this year on the spoken word part of their productions.

John Flower had a busy and successful six months as the event manager for the 2005 Rotary Health Safari. More recently he's been co-ordinating the Commonwealth Games Baton's journey around the country. He continues to be available to clients for media training and issues management. Of course if you need to organise a cavalcade around Australia, he's your best choice.

George Meredith continues to be busy with the new Sydney Community TV licence - which is transmitting now on channel 31. George's experience with ABC TV and especially the early Asia Satellite Service are proving useful to the community groups.

We've been presenting a new strategic communications overview workshop recently: Memes, Branding and Communication Strategies brings the most recent communication research together with current media tactics.

It's not media or presentation training, but an overview of all the messages that come out of an organisation. We examine the values of the organisation and the values of the audience or customers they need to communicate with, and then devise the appropriate strategy.

We're delighted to announce that Katherine Scott has agreed to do some consulting with us. Kathy has a long history in journalism, and pharmaceutical industry media relations and issues management. She will continue to run her own consultancy, Interact Media, as well as being available to Corpcoms clients. Her bio is here. With Kathy's help we've had a lot more exposure for the Olivier Internet Job Index, scoring successes with ABC TV News, and many recruitment industry outlets.

Our refresher and introductory presentation and media training day at On Camera Connections was very enjoyable, and allowed us to try out some new ideas. The mixture of people gave us a great change from just working with one organisation at a time. We will do more of these, so if you're interested in training for just one or two people let us know, and we'll let you know when the next one is on. Please get in touch through our contact page

We're supporting the new site ZENLP.org with funds and time in an effort to combine the best of modern neuroscience (especially NLP) and ancient understandings about meditation. Some of the processes explained there have arisen from our work with clients.

Time magazine recently gave its cover to the science behind happiness recently, and the Sydney Morning Herald followed suit with a major story in their Saturday supplement.

Our philosophy has always been that some inner work may be involved in getting communication right, and this site takes that further. If you're interested in finding some calm, or exploring who you really are, you may find some useful material on the site. The wealth of material that we've uncovered does mean that it's very much under development.

Corpcoms was once again involved with the Talent Development Project this year. While Human Nature are the highest profile act to come out of this finishing school for young performers, every one of the dozen graduates each year is a star. Paulini, from Australian Idol, for example was in one of our classes. The quality of the performers can be seen in the School Spectacular at the Entertainment Centre (and telecast last year on ABC TV). Corpcoms provided a photo session and headshots for each participant as well as media training.

From time to time we've been asked to do presentations to groups that don't have the time for a full training session. We're now formally offering three speeches on key subjects: Getting To The Point, Confidence In Public, and Understanding The Media. Details are here.

When circumstances warrant we issue email media alerts to clients and contacts. They are designed to expand relevant understandings of current issues and how the media deals with them.

While the alerts are principally for clients, if you would like to be on our email list, please make a request through
